Knowledge about Marriage Compatibility Chart

On the Bhaskar Panchang, a table is provided to determine the favorable or nonfavorable aspects of horoscopes of the boy and the girl for the purpose of marriage. All the favorable aspects of the birth nakshatras, rashis and nakshatra-charana can be read from left to right for the boy and from top to bottom for the girl. For the matching of graha, the lagna, moon, sun and Venus should also be matched with the horoscope. There is a total of 36 matching points of varga, naadi, gana, yoni, bhukuuta, etc. A minimum of 16 points must match. Matching of 18 to 24 points is considered as mediocre while matching of 24 to 36 points is considered as the most superior. In the table, letters ‘A’, ‘B’, ‘C’ indicate matching qualities and non-matching items. The meaning of these indicators is given also. Even if the non-favorable aspects correspond to favorable raashis, one should give a special consideration to the non-favorable aspect of nadi. Under the following situations, the non-favorable aspect of nadi is ignored: same nakshatra, same raashi, difference in charana (i.e. same rashi but different nakshatra). Under the situation of non-matching of nadi, if a marriage is inevitable due to unavoidable circumstances, then, according to the advise of the pandits, one should recite “Maha-mrityu-anjaya Mantra” at least 31,000 times; and donate a gold bangle** weighing 31 grams or one ounce. Following is an example which describes the use of the table. For boy: birth rashi is vrisha and rohini nakshatra is in the second charana.

For girl birth rashi is tula and nakshatra vishakha is in the third charana. In the table, where the nakshatras and rashis meet, there is numeral ‘9’ and below it are letters ‘A’, ‘B’, ‘C’. This implies that a total of nine points are matching. The non-favorable aspects A, B, C of nadi, gana and bhukuuta are given below. Even though the raashis are favorable, there are only nine matching points and those are with faults as indicated by A,B,C. This is not considered as an auspicious match for marriage. One should also consider individual yoga and ayoga of the boy and the girl.

Consideration of lagna in determining auspicious timing for marriage:

Calculation of an auspicious timing for the marriage ceremony is the most important of all such calculations. One takes note of lagna for this calculation. The rashis of mesh, vrish and singh are blind in the daytime and those of mithun, kark and kanya are blind at the night-time. Tula and vrishchik are active in the daytime and dhanu and makar in the night. Kumbh is invalid in the daytime and meen at night. In these rashis, timing is not auspicious for a marriage ceremony. However, if these rashis are visible from their respective lords, by Jupiter or Mercury, then the nonfavorable condition does not exist. If the auspicious timing exists but there is lack of lagna, then godhuli lagna (duration of 24 minutes around the time of local sunset) is considered auspicious for all.

Consideration of forceful effects of the sun, moon and Jupiter:

All these effects are considered for the boy and the girl. In particular, force of the Sun is essential for the boy, the force of Jupiter for the girl (but not necessary if the girl is over the age of 16) and the force of the moon for both.

Sun’s force: With respect to the birth rashi of the boy, it is considered as auspicious when Sun is in the 3rd, 6th, 10th or 11th rashi, inauspicious when in the 4th, 8th and 12th raashi, and auspicious after offering worship when in the 1st, 2nd, 5th, 7th and 9th rashi.

Jupiter’s force: With respect to the birth rashi of the girl, it is considered as auspicious when Jupiter is in the 2nd, 5th, 7th, 9th or 11th rashi, inauspicious when in the 4th, 8th or12th rashi, and auspicious after offering worship when in the 1st, 3rd, 6th, or10th rashi.

Moon’s force: With respect to the birth rashi of the boy and the girl, it is considered as auspicious when Moon is in the 1st, 3rd, 6th, 7th, 10th or 11th rashi, inauspicious when in the 4th, 8th or12th rashi, and auspicious after offering worship when in the 2nd, 5th or 9th rashi.
