** Procedures For Observing Fasts On Seven Days Of The Week**

It is very important for man to pray and to sing the glory of the Lord to have a purposeful life. Everybody wishes for a peaceful life but only few seriously try to get it. Man can learn about his past, present and future activities through his stars (horoscope). Observing fasts on different days of the week has been known to protect a person from the bad influences of his stars. Fasts should be observed with complete dedication both physically and mentally. We should have all our senses under full control while observing any fast. Fasts have their own importance when the stars are unfavourable.


1. Sunday Fast: This fast is observed to please Sun and is useful for the cure of skin, throat, eye and other physical ailments. Begin this fast on any Sunday of Shukla Paksha of any month and continue fasting for one year. Get up prior to sun-rise on the fasting day. Apply tilak with red sandalwood after bath. Recite Sun-mantara and offer water (aragh) to the Sun. Take food only once prior to sunset. Use of salt is prohibited. Perform hawan on the last day of fast. Worship Sun
methodically and offer food to brahmins. Wear red coloured clothes and distribute red clothes, copper utensils and wheat on the day of last fast.


2. Monday Fast: Start this fast on any Monday of Shukla Paksha. This fast is observed for mental peace and family happiness. Recite as much as possible Moon-mantra. Perform Shiv Parwati pooja with flowers, rice, lamp, incense and panchamrit etc. Take meals only once. Use of salt and pickles are prohibited. Wear while and donate while clothes. Observe 54 fasts. It is also useful to observe 16 fasts only. Perform pooja and hawan methodically on the day of last fast.
Distribute food among small boys.


3. Tuesday Fast: This fast is observed for the cure of physical and mental ailments, particularly to suppress anger. Start fasting on any Tuesday of Shukla Paksha and observe 21 fasts. Distribute and take yourself prasad of gur and halwa. Wear red clothes. Perform pooja of Hanumanji and recite basic Mangal-mantra for at least 7
times. It is also useful to recite Hanuman chalisa. On the day of last fast, perform Mangal pooja methodically and serve sweet food to 21 boys.

4. Wednesday Fast: This fast to also started on the first Wednesday of Shukla Paksha for mental development and to avoid mental problems. In total 45 fasts are required. Recite at least 7 times the basic Buddha-mantra. Make an extra effort to use green color and distribute alms. Avoid taking salt and take food only once prior to sun-set. On the last day of the fast, pray to Lord Vishnu and Ganesha, perform hawan with Buddha-mantra, distribute food and money to brahmins and the poor.


5. Thursday Fast: This fast is observed for family peace and happiness, good luck, meeting with saints and learned people and spiritual uplift. Observe a total of 16 fasts. Pray to Thursday Devata and recite Thursday-mantra. Distribute yellow coloured things. Consume yellow coloured food devoid of salt. Start fasting on the first Thursday of Shukla Paksha. On the last day of the fast, perform hawan with mantra and thousand Vishnu names. Complete the fast with the distribution of food and money to saintly people.

6. Friday Fast: This fast is observed for happiness and peace and get rid of hidden ailments. Start this fast on the first Friday of Shukla Paksha. A minimum of 21 fasts are required. Recite at least three cycles of basic Shukra-mantra. Use and distribute milk, sugar, curd and rice etc. Wear white clothes and apply tilak of while sandalwood. It will also useful be to offer pooja to Devimaa. Take sweet meals only once avoiding salt and pickles. On the last day of the fast, perform hawan with the recitation of Shukra-mantra. Distribute to other and consume yourself kheer prashad.


7. Saturday Fast: Start this fast on a Saturday of Shukla Paksha and observe 51 fasts. This fast is observed for the elimination of arguments, clashes and tensions in life. Offer pooja to Shani devata and recite at least 7 cycles of Shani Mantra. Use blue color extensively. If possible, water pipal tree. It will also be useful to recite Hanuman Chalisa and sankatmochan. On the last day of fast, consume yourself
in black and distribute to others foods cooked in oil. Also, distribute coconut, shoes, umbrella, mirror and items made of iron.
